Sterling, Va. — Backed by eight individual championship swims, the Riverside High School boys and girls swim teams claimed the Dulles District championships on January 26 in Sterling. On the boys side, Riverside senior Jackson McCummings won the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Christopher Kopac won the 500-yard freestyle and sophomore Robert Quan won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events as the Rams swam past Dominion, 467-344. On the girls side, Riverside junior Allison Kopac won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle and senior Claire Nguyen won both the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events as the Rams again defeated Dominion, 470-398. Alexandria, Va. — Tuscarora High School freshman Eryn Hubble and Loudoun County High School sophomore Leila Tevlin topped the podiums at the third annual VHSL Girls State Wrestling Championships on January 26 at Hayfield. Hubble – who won the 146-pound class – and Tevlin – who won the 156-pound class – led the field of eight Loudoun wrestlers, all of whom placed in the top four in their respective weight classes. Landover, Md. — Four APEX gymnasts won the all-around competition in their respective divisions at the Sportsplex Team Classic in Landover on January 25-27. Leesburg, Va. — The Tuscarora and John Champe High School girls basketball teams are on currently on opposite sides of the Potomac District standings. No. 2 Tuscarora has posted just three losses this season – two at the hands of No. 1 Freedom – while No. 8 John Champe has just a single win in district. Leesburg, Va. — Heritage High School sophomore Riley Carroll led the Pride to a second-place in a five-team meet over Briar Woods, Park View, Potomac Falls and Stone Bridge High Schools on January 24 in Leesburg. Potomac Falls High School won the team competition. Carroll turned in the top all-around score with a 36.050 while winning three of the four the individual events.
