Frederick (February 14, 2017) – On February 11, the Level 3 gymnasts from APEX Gymnastics took home the team title at the Frederick Classic on the Hill in Washington, D.C. Harrisonburg (February 13, 2017) – Seven different Loudoun student-athletes combined to win twelve individual events at the VHSL 4A West region swimming championships on February 11 in Harrisonburg, while the Rock Ridge High Schools girls won the team championships. Rock Ridge senior Nicole Fye led the Lady Phoenix turning in two blue-ribbon finishes, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.75) with an All-American consideration and doubling up with a win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.38). Sterling (February 9, 2017) – Freedom High School junior Sydney Wrighte – who was sidelined with an injury for most of the season – has reentered tournament competition right where she left off: on top. On February 8, Wrighte – the defending VHSL state champion – held on to her VHSL 5A North region crown in the all-around (39.250), as she led the Lady Eagles to a second place finish at the region meet in Sterling.
