Leesburg (February 15, 2016) — If the success of an announcer is dependent upon the audience’s opinion, then Brendan Friedrich hit it out of the park on February 12. 1,039 likes, 204 shares and over 40,000 views of his appearance on ABC7 News – Good Morning Washington, and Friedrich has become an overnight sensation in Loudoun County.
“It was so much fun! I had a smile on my face the whole entire day,” Friedrich said. “The exhilaration of being on TV was really good. Everyone welcomed me on the team as a reporter, and it felt awesome.”
Friedrich is a 14-year-old freshman at Heritage High School who was born blind. You may also have heard he is the “The Voice of the Pride.” Friedrich provides sports commentary for the audience during all home basketball games.
“I like being ‘The Voice of the Pride’ because I like how everybody cherishes me at this school for who I am and not by my disability,” Friedrich said. “I am not nervous when I do this kind of stuff either. I am always more than happy to do it. I’m just somebody who loves to get everyone’s energy up.”
Friedrich became interested in the sports commentating business when he was ten years old after he went to a radio station to meet and hear radio deejays live.
When the well-known 14-year-old commentator appeared on Good Morning Washington on February 12, he became a hit. As Friedrich was living in the moment on live TV, he was also surprised.

Robinson surprised Friedrich by giving him the opportunity to announce and welcome the Capitals onto the ice during warm ups on February 20.
“Wes Johnson from the Washington Capitals has always inspired me to do sport announcing. I really like the way he does it,” Friedrich said. “I have tried to make my voice sound like his. I can definitely say he has been my role model throughout this journey.”
Friedrich is passionate, enthusiastic, energetic and so much more. He has a love for not only sports commentating but also Earth Science and is a weather fanatic. He loves listening to the radio and is a dedicated student at heart. There is so much to be admired by what he has accomplished, and, is someone we will continue to hear about as he pursues his dream.
If you would like to hear something truly incredible, come to a Heritage girls or boys home basketball game to hear “The Voice of the Pride.”
