Purcellville (November 7, 2015) — Loudoun Valley High School senior Brandon Weaver has made a commitment to continue his golf career at Longwood University beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year.

“Being committed to a college is a huge relief because I don’t have to worry about applying to a ton of schools, and I can enjoy my senior year,” the 5-foot-10 Weaver said. “I chose Longwood because the smaller campus fits my personality well, and I really like the golf coach, so I’m very excited for next year.”

The Division I Lancers are led by head coach Kevin Fillman who will enter his 20th season at Longwood in the same year Weaver enters his first. In 2014-2015, the Lancers finished ninth at the Big South Conference championship.

“I think I’ll add some low and consistent scores on the course  and a good work ethic to the Lancer team,” Weaver said.

Weaver knows a thing or two about adding low scores to his team’s total. In 2015, Weaver led the Loudoun Valley Vikings – who moved up a classification because of the realignment – to the VHSL 4A state championship after finishing runner-ups in the VHSL 3A state championship just a year before.

For Weaver – while the team win was the most exciting part – winning the individual state crown was icing on the cake.

“Winning states as a team and individually in the same year is a really cool accomplishment that not many can say they have been a part of so it’s just an awesome feeling,” Weaver said. “Winning as a team is a little more fun because everyone can enjoy the win together; winning individually just adds a little extra excitement.”

After his grandpa introduced to the game at a young age, Weaver continues to enjoy golf because of its endless tests on the course.

“The constant challenge of golf is really what keeps me coming back,” Weaver said. “The couple of really good shots I hit during a round and fixing the shots that weren’t so great are what keep me going.”
