Sterling (September 24, 2015) – Dominion High School senior Pete Langan has made a commitment to continue his lacrosse career at Virginia Wesleyan College beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year.
“I chose Virginia Wesleyan because I enjoyed the atmosphere on campus, the location of the school and the strength of their business program, in which I hope to major in,” the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Langan said. “I liked the camaraderie of the team and the culture of the program. I feel excited, relieved and thrilled that I have accomplished my goal of an early college commitment.”
With the commitment, Langan will join a Division III Marlins team which finished their 2015 campaign 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. On May 2, Virginia Wesleyan played in their final game of the season when they lost to Roanoke in an ODAC tournament semifinal and fell just out of DIII NCAA tournament contention.
“I hope to add some energy to an already wonderful team,” said Langan who will play attack for the Marlins. “I’m looking forward to learning from the older guys and being a strong contributor.”
Dominion – led by head coach Pete Lenotti – saw a similar fate in 2015, going 5-2 in the Dulles Group before falling to Woodgrove in a group semifinal whose winner saw an automatic berth to the VHSL 4A North zone tournament.
“I look forward to a final winning season. We have many graduating seniors, and hopefully, we will finish strong,” said Langan who was born in Arlington. “The past four years at Dominion have been great and a special thanks to coach Lenotti and coach [David] Smith for being superb leaders for the Titans.”
Langan credits the Dominion coaching staff as well as the Apprentice Athletics head coach, Matt Casey, and his dad, Kevin Langan, for his lacrosse success over the years.
“I have played lacrosse for the majority of my life. I love the physical demands and fast-paced manner of the game,” Langan said. “My father was my coach since day one, he got me started and never let me give up.”
