Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Power Train and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce Briar Woods High School graduate Abby Maltese as the Power Train and LoCoSports Athlete of the Month for June 2018.
Maltese and the Falcons ended their 2018 campaign with a historic June. On June 1, the Falcons claimed the VHSL Region 5C title, knocking off Potomac District foe Potomac Falls, 1-0. Then Maltese made quick work of the rest of the state, scoring three goals in three state playoff games, including both Falcons goals en route to a 2-0 win over Douglas Freeman in the VHSL 5A State championship game on June 9.
“Abby possesses a rare, uniquely balanced skill set,” Briar Woods head coach Kimmy Moss said. “It’s so easy to notice that she is incredibly talented, but the more you know her, the more you realize that every ounce of her talent can be attributed to a relentless work ethic. Quite simply — no one outworks Abby. Period.”

“She plays with unwavering confidence but has incredible humility,” Moss said. “She can sustain borderline-reckless intensity throughout an entire game but is always in control.”
The Power Train and LoCoSports Athlete of the Month is selected from nominations based on student-athletes having great success, hustle, work ethic, attitude and heart.
Power Train invites all athletes and teammates of the month to either of their Loudoun locations for a free month of training.
