Leesburg (September 4, 2016) – Loudoun County High School junior Melissa Hoffheins has decided to continue her soccer career at North Carolina State University starting in the 2018-2019 academic year.

“The moment I stepped onto the campus, I knew it was the school for me,” the 5-foot-6 goalkeeper said. “My family and I knew I wanted to play at the highest level I could, so it was almost a given. The program is amazing and the team has so much potential. The players were so nice when I visited, and the coaches were super welcoming. It felt like home!”

NC State is a public, distinguished research university located in Raleigh, North Carolina. This Division I school holds its 34,000-plus students across four different campuses.

As of right now, the ladies of Wolfpack soccer are 3-2. The team is led by head coach Tim Santoro and assisted by Mike Barroqueiro and Tom Anagnost.

“I definitely hope to add some competition to the goalkeeping position at State,” Hoffheins said. “I am hoping to also help the program grow to its fullest potential by making my teammates better as I myself get better.”

Hoffheins has been a goalkeeper for eleven years. Within those eleven years, she has made many successful achievements in her soccer career besides her commitment to the Wolfpack. She plays club soccer for McLean ECNL U16 – which is ranked top ten nationally – and even made the Olympic Development Program district, state, regional and national pools.

“Seeing my teammates almost every other day and every weekend is definitely my favorite part about soccer,” Hoffheins said. “We are like a little family and I can always count on them to make my day.

Hoffheins is successful both in club and in high school soccer. Adding to her long list of accomplishments, Hoffheins has contributed to the winning of back-to-back VHSL 4A state championship titles for Loudoun County High School.

“I have absolutely loved the outcome of last year’s season!” Hoffheins said. “Of course, our goal this year is to get the three-peat!”
