Sterling, Va. — Potomac Falls High School senior Emily Jencks is quite the athlete. The 5-foot-4 dual-sport student-athlete has recently made a commitment to Division III Bridgewater College, where she will play both field hockey and lacrosse.
“I will be able to play both field hockey and lacrosse, which was super important to me,” Jencks said.
[adrotate banner=”10″]Jencks believes that she can add a “positive work ethic and commitment,” to the Eagles field hockey and lacrosse programs.
After much training and hard work, Jencks feels relieved to be committed
“It feels amazing,” Jencks said. “I’m no longer stressed about where I am going to attend, and I can start buying spirit wear for my new home for the next four years!”
Jencks is appreciative of the Bridgewater coaching staff for “not rushing her into making a decision before she was ready,” as well as her high school coaches for “writing great recommendation letters and putting together film clips” for her.
As a right forward in field hockey and a midfielder in lacrosse, Jencks is always in the middle of the action and depended on for solid play.
Jencks – who was named an All-LoCo honorable mention in field hockey in 2017 – wants to become a better overall player physically and mentally, as that is her main motivation for playing both lacrosse and field hockey.
Jencks wouldn’t trade her time at Potomac Falls for anything, stating how much she loved her teams, coaches, and atmosphere.
“The programs that the coaches run [at Potomac Falls]is all about developing as a player and learning about the game in every aspects,” Jencks said.
Being a high school dual-sport student-athlete is hard enough, as well as playing on two travel teams – the PFH Rapids and LCL – but doing that at the college level will be that much more difficult. However, Jencks is welcoming the challenge as she has fun competing in both sports.
“I play field hockey and lacrosse because they each are very compatible with each other,” Jencks said. “I can’t imagine my life where I play just lacrosse or just field hockey.”
