Leesburg (May 2, 2016) — Heritage High School senior Carsten Wahl has made a commitment to continue his baseball career at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago starting in the 2016-2017 school year.

“It’s extremely exciting, I get to continue what I love and I get the education that I want,” the 5-foot-10 Wahl said.

Being given the opportunity to play college ball is really big for Wahl, especially because he hurt his elbow just prior to his senior season during a training session.

“When I first injured my arm it was a huge scare, not only because it hurt, but also because of the fact it might have hindered my ability to play collegiately,” Wahl said. “I am extremely happy that the injury was minor and I’m almost fully recovered.”

“Illinois Institute of Technology is an inner city campus on the edge of Chicago which is a great attribute for me, because it means there are a lot of things to do,” Wahl said. “From an educational standpoint, IIT offers a great engineering education. When I visited IIT I met up with the current baseball team and coach and really liked the experience they gave me.”

When Wahl enters the Hawks program, he hopes he to add depth both as a pitcher and an outfielder.

“I’m hoping I can contribute [in]last few games and hopefully add something small to the team that gives us the opportunity to advance deep into playoffs,” Wahl said.

The Guildford, United Kingdom-native mentioned that baseball is more than just a sport to him as it has brought some great people into his life.

“I play baseball because I think that it can be be a lot of fun,” said Wahl who played his travel ball for Marucci Stars. “I don’t only play the sport for the game itself but also because of the people that it has brought into my life. I have met all my best friends through baseball and that is why I love the game.”
