Ashburn (April 18, 2016) – Broad Run High School junior Leah Deutsch has decided to continue her soccer career at the College of Charleston starting her 2017-2018 academic year.
“When I visited College of Charleston, I immediately fell in love with it,” the 5-foot-5 outside back said. “I chose College of Charleston not only because of its beautiful location but also because it has so many great things to offer.”
The College of Charleston is a public university located in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. It also has 59 majors to choose from and has about 11,000 students. Leah will also be joining her older sister, Sara, on the soccer field at the College of Charleston.
“I am really excited to be at the same school and to play on the same team as my older sister again,” Deutsch said. “It is definitely going to be interesting at times and I can guarantee we’re going to get in a lot of arguments, but overall I think it’ll make us closer and it will be a lot of fun.”
Before Deutsch heads to College of Charleston, she will finish out the current high school soccer season and next season with her twin sister, Anna. Broad Run High School won the VHSL 5A state championship in 2015 and started off the 2016 season at 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the daunting Conference 14.
“I love playing with Anna on the field because we really understand each other,” Deutsch said. “Since we’ve been playing with each other for so long, we know how one another plays and that makes it easier to play with each other on the field.”
Deutsch has been playing soccer for 13 years and has been nominated for the Potomac Soccer Wire Best 11 players – a list for the top performers across all youth travel soccer clubs based in D.C. and the states that touch the Potomac River.
“The college process can be extremely stressful, so I feel relieved knowing I’m going to a school that I love. I already know most of the girls currently on the team since my older sister is a freshman there, so I think it’ll be an easy transition and I will hopefully work well with everyone,” Deutsch said. “I really do feel like a huge weight has been finally lifted off my shoulders.”
