Ashburn (March 21, 2016) — Broad Run High School senior Matt Meier has made a commitment to continue his football career at Frostburg State University beginning in the 2016-2017 academic year.

“I’m glad I’ve made my decision,” the 6-foot, 225-pound Meier said. “I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates at FSU and to start working towards winning championships.”

The Division III Bobcats finished their 2015 campaign at 6-4, but Meier noted the team’s internal motivation will push them to new levels throughout his four-year collegiate career.

“I chose Frostburg because the coaches and players show the same drive and passion for football and winning as I do,” Meier said.

Aided by Broad Run graduates Dante Chinnery (2014) and Nick Drake (2015), Tuscarora graduate Riley Hartman (2015), John Champe graduate Matt Hunt (2015) and Loudoun Valley graduate Jordan Procter (2014), Frostburg State has improved each year under third-year head coach DeLane Fitzgerald’s tenure.

“I expect to add hustle, leadership and competitiveness to the FSU defense,” said Meier who will play middle linebacker for the Bobcats.

Competing at the next level has always been one of Meier’s goals and his aggressive athletic nature has helped him steadily progress throughout his football career.

“I play football because it challenges you both mentally and physically,” Meier said. “It requires you to work as a team in order to be successful. And nobody likes to compete more than I do.”

Meier competed as hard as he could for the last few seasons at Broad Run leading the Spartans to a 6-0 start in 2015 before finally falling to Ashburn-rival Stone Bridge in a VHSL 5A North region quarterfinal ending their season at 8-4.

“Being a part of the Broad Run football tradition was the best,” Meier said. “I love all of my coaches and teammates. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
