Sterling (February 20, 2016) — Potomac Falls High School senior CeCe Mason has made a commitment to continue her soccer career at Chowan University starting in the 2016-2017 school year.
“I chose Chowan because they showed so much interest in me and made the university feel just like home,” the 5-foot-3 Mason said. “Chowan first reached out to me through email then I got a call from the head coach telling me he had seen me at ID camps I had attended, and he was very interested in me. The coach took the time to have me go visit Chowan and stay the night with some teammates. I also got to practice with them and got a full experience about what to expect.”
Mason – who will play midfield in college – can certainly expect to work hard to help the rebuilding Division II Hawks who finished their 2015 campaign 1-12-2. First-year head coach Chris White took over the Chowan program prior to the fall season after coaching stints at Duke, Miami and Colgate.
But before Mason gets to join White and the rest of the DII Hawks, she will play her senior season for the Potomac Falls Panthers.
In 2015, the Panthers finished the season 4-12-1 and struggled in the deep Conference 14. But Mason and her Potomac Falls teammates are ready to bounce back, especially with the expected return of San Francisco-commit, goalkeeper Olivia Camera.
“This spring I plan to go out with a bang,” said Mason who played travel for Reston Wildfire. “I want my school to remember my name, so I’m going to make sure I leave my mark.”
Starting soccer at just five-years-old, Mason recalled her start to soccer as a surprise.
“My mom and I were driving by some soccer fields, and I was like ‘Mom, I want to play soccer!’ She was shocked because at the time I was a cheerleader so switching from pom poms to cleats was a huge switch,” Mason said. “But my mom has been to every single soccer game, and in times I felt down and felt like I couldn’t play, my mom was always there.”
